Depending on the type of face lift surgery you are having, small incisions will usually be placed within the hairline (out of site), at the temples and down around the ear lobe. A small incision under the chin may also be necessary in some surgeries to accomplish the goals that you have for your appearance. All facelift procedures are out-patient surgeries, meaning you return home after your procedure is complete. Some less invasive types of facelifts can be performed in the office without general anesthesia.

Bruising and swelling can be expected for 4-12 weeks depending upon the type of facelift performed and each individual patient's characteristics. Sutures (stitches) that close the incisions are removed after 6 days. Most patients find that they require two weeks at home for recovery.
