Ears

Otoplasty is the technical term for ear surgery. Ear surgery can help improve the shape of your ears, better position your ears (by pinning back the ear or raising or lowering the ear), and make your ear size more proportional to your face. Otoplasty is generally not covered by insurance since it is considered cosmetic surgery.

When considering an otoplasty procedure, it is important to clearly discuss your goals and expectations with your surgeon. Having clear communication with your surgeon is paramount to a successful surgery. At Dr. Elizabeth’s office, a picture will be taken of you so that we can clearly show you how your otoplasty may change your appearance.

Otoplasty Procedure

Typically, small incisions are made behind the ear for ear pinning surgery; these incisions allow the surgeon to reposition and/or reshape the cartilage to improve appearance and function. As an experienced ear, nose, and throat surgeon, Dr. Elizabeth has the artistic skill and medical knowledge to provide you with ears that enhance the beautiful features of your face.

After surgery, your ear(s) will be covered with a bulky pressure dressing; this dressing must remain in place for a couple of days after your surgery. When this initial dressing is removed it will be replaced with a head bandage that must be worn for several weeks. You may experience some discomfort after surgery which can be managed with medication.
